I found out this afternoon that Lance Powell passed away a few days ago. Lance was the founder and primary organizer of LindyGroove, which I believe has been running continuously in Pasadena for over twenty years, outside of the Covid lockdown period, I guess.
That's the place where I taught for so long, until I left Southern California in 2013. This blog was started while I taught the LindyGroove Technique Class. I had been teaching the beginning weekly Lindy Hop class with Lance's now-widow, Vicki Chan for several years, but I had an itch to dig a little deeper. I'm not sure how successful I was, but I'm thankful to Lance for giving me the space to explore my teaching.
I had mostly lost touch with Lance, having visited LindyGroove just twice in the time since I left Los Angeles. It seems to me that LindyGroove and the Lindy Hop community of Southern California were things he cherished.
Thank you Lance, for sharing space with us. I hope the community will continue to carry the torch for you. I hope I can share at least a fraction of what you did.
